India's e-Visa Programme
India's e-Visa system allows eligible foreign nationals to obtain a visa online before travel, eliminating the need to visit an Indian consulate or embassy in person. The programme has been progressively expanded and now covers over 160 nationalities for tourism, business, medical, and conference visits.
Following the December 2025 expansion, several previously excluded nationalities from Africa, Central Asia, and the Pacific have been added to the eligible countries list, significantly broadening access to India for international travel and business.
e-Visa Categories Available
India offers several e-Visa categories depending on the purpose of travel:
- e-Tourist Visa: Valid for 30 days, 1 year, or 5 years with single, double, or multiple entry options
- e-Business Visa: Valid for 1 year with multiple entries, maximum 180 days per visit
- e-Medical Visa: Valid for 60 days with triple entry for medical treatment
- e-Conference Visa: For delegates attending conferences, seminars, or workshops
How to Apply
Applications are submitted online through the Indian government's official e-Visa portal at least 4 days before travel. The standard processing time is 72 hours, though Swift Journey Visa recommends applying at least 2 weeks in advance to allow for any unexpected delays.
You will need a valid passport, a recent digital photograph, and a scanned copy of the biographical page of your passport. Business travellers will additionally need a letter from their sponsoring Indian company.
